Prof. Maria Cristina Gambetta - video selected by Nature Awards and Merck
As part of a competition organised by Nature Potfolio- Science in Shorts, we collaborated with Dr. Maria Cristina Gambetta to take on the challenge of summarising her work and discoveries in just one minute. In short, Dr. Cristina Gamberra works on the mechanisms in cells that give specific structures to the DNA fibre. For several years, scientists have been trying to prove that these structures regulate the expression/activity of our genes. However, these studies are difficult to perform directly in humans. That is why Dr Cristina Gambetta, her team and collaborators are studying these phenomena in a much simpler organism: fruit flies (Drosophila Melanogaster). This animation, entirely hand-made, presents the results of her paper published in Nature Communications (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-21366-2). We also participated in writing the script.
