Several levels of DNA compaction are required to pack 2 metres of DNA into 10 uM nuclei of each animal cell. These compactions give a specific 3D structure to the DNA that has a strong impact on gene expression. The physico-chemical mechanisms that allow the establishment of these 3D structures are still poorly understood. The « 3D Genomics » conference attempts to answer this question through high-resolution and high-throughput experimental approaches. Among others, physical modelling tools and statistical data analysis are becoming essential tools to elucidate the unresolved questions in this field.
